REBIRTH OF GREAT NATION KING VICTOR EXPRESSES ADMIRATION. IN MESSAGE TO GENERAL FRANCO. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day. 9.45 a.m.) ROME, March 30. King Victor Emmanuel telegraphed General Franco as follows: —“While the valorous troops of Nationalist Spain are fighting, with heroic deeds, I wish to express to you the admiration of myself and all Italians, who salute the rebirth of a great and friendly nation as a triumph of justice.”
GENERAL IN TEARS RESISTANCE WAS USELESS. REFUGEES FLEE TO ALGERIA. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) ALGIERS, March 30. General Miaja arrived in tears. He said resistance was useless and the war had ended. The British steamer Stanbrook arrived in Algeria with 1800 refugees. Boatloads of refugees continue to arrive at Oran, but are not permitted to land. General Franco has taken over enormous quantities of war material.
LATE POPE’S LAST LETTER.
BLESSING FOR GENERAL FRANCO’S DAUGHTER. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) ROME, March 30. The last letter signed by Pope Pius XI was a blessing for General Franco’s daughter at her special request. REPUBLICAN COLLAPSE WHOLESALE SURRENDERS ON ALL FRONTS. ACCORDING TO OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. (Received This Day, 9.55 a.m.) SALAMANCA, March 30. An official communique stated that 14,723 prisoners and deserters were captured on the Valencia front. Two brigades and six battalions surrendered. Some 70,000 prisoners were captured in the southern zone. Three battalions surrendered and thousands were captured or surrendered on the Toledo front. .
