INDUSTRY IN MASTERTON.
THAT this district has possibilities as a manufacturing centre X has long been the opinion of those citizens who have visioned the Masterton of the future as an industrial area of considerable proportions. With improved transport facilities that will be in operation in the near future as the result of the removal of that railway monstrosity known as the Rimutaka Incline, there should lie a greater inducement to outside firms to establish industries in Masterton. Prom a national point of view, the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) sounded a very vital note when lie referred to the highly vulnerable nature of a city like Wellington and its environs in the event oi war. There is every facility" available in Masterton for the establishment of industries on a large scale, and even the shortage of certain classes of labour feared in some quarters, would soon prove a myth, for con-'enial employment would draw its full quota of labour. An increase in industrial activities in Masterton would mean the expansion and the progress of the town, and it is the bounden duty of every citizen to “pull his weight” with the object of bringing this about. Business men especially should be interested —and undoubtedly are —in any movement which will increase the number of ' manufacturing establishments in .Masterton, because such factories will add to the wealth of the town and bring about additional avenues for employment m their own particular businesses. The position should certainly be exploited to the full in order that whatever possibilities are in it may not be lost to this district. Masterton has already numerous important and flourishing industries, some of which do a considerable overseas business, thus assisting in a substantial measure to advertise New Zealand. The extension of these and Hie establishment, of others is of vital importance to the district, and is. collectively the concern of the citizens oi Masterton.
