COURTCRAFT TO GO TO SYDNEY.

(By

“The Cynic.”)

A report originating in Auckland stated that the Limond horse Courtcraft was to go to the Westmere stud of M. Grogan.

This is incorrect. Courtcraft will leave for Sydney on Monday and will be auctioned there as a stallion. His owner, Mr W. H. Goisford, is also going over for a short holiday.

Courtcraft proved himself - a brilliant three-year-old last season by winning the King’s Plate, the Great Northern Derby and the Clifford Plate at the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting. In Australia in the spring he annexed the Clibborn Stakes, after finishing .fourth in the A.J.C. Derby to horses of the calibre of Avenger. Hua and Ajax. Courtcraft is by Limond. His dam, Homage, is a daughter of the notable brood mare Eulogy.

Great Improvement. Few horses of recent years have so quickly changed the aspect of their turf activities from failure to success as did Royal Dance in his dual victory over the battens. This was his first public appearance as a hurdler and he made good immediately. Airam fully tested him on Monday, but he came through, although fully extended.

The experience should at least counterbalance hjs inevitable rise in the weights. Prior to his explosive entry into the ranks of the jumpers, he had not won since July of 1937. That was in a Stewards’ Handicap at Trentham.

Likely to do Better. Pirate King has had rather a chequered career, but he has now come into his own. Following his handsome success in the Flying Handicap on the first day, he won the Herries Memorial Handicap with something in hand and' the end of his winning sequence is not in sight. Pirate King might develop first-class form before next summer. He is now trained by L. D. Rice, at Te Aroha.
