Corrosion of an eight-inch cast-iron main carrying hot water fmm Whakarewarewa 1o the Ward and Blue Baths in the Government Gardens at Roffiru' 1 was resoonsible for a “blow out.’’ A rang of men sent to effect repairs found it necessary to remove about two chains of pipe where it passed through a bed of sulnhur. So badly corroded wtere the old pipes that in places the walls were barely thick enough to withstand the pressure of the water.
