METHODIST CHURCH
SALE OF WORK. Owing to the inclement weather the annual Methodist Church Garden Party which was to have been held at the residence of Mrs J. Elliott, Colombo Road, had to be abandoned but a most successful gathering 'took place in the Methodist Schoolroom instead. The sale was opened by the Rev F. Parker in a very happy speech. Beside the usual stalls there was a talkie matinee, darts and other competitions, the winners of which were Miss P. Mygind, Mr A. Barnes and Master Owen Prior. The Ist and 2nd prize for the best Is article was awarded to Mesdames C. D. Shoosmith and Eric Jones, respectively. At the conclusion of the sale Mr Parker thanked all those who had assisted.
The stall-holders were as follows? Cakes, Mesdames Handyside, Shoosmith, Andrew and Miss Jackson; sweets and soft drinks, Mesdames Parker, Lyttle and Misses Irene Shoosmith and Dorothy Lyttle; work, Mesdames Neilson, Daniell, Judd, Drew and Daysh; produce, Mesdames Hansen. White, Hoar and Miss Beale; afternoon tea, Mesdames Prior, Hendry, Speight and Martin; competitions, Messrs Sanson and M. Daniell; talkies, Mr Scott, of Auckland; character reading, Mrs Kilgour. A feature of the programme was an exhibition of folk dancing given by the girls of the Central School who were under the direction of Miss L. Cocker. Thanks arc extended to Mr Murray Daniell and his helpers for the carriage of equipment.
