SWIMMING
A RECORD BROKEN.
(By Telegraph—Tress Association.) AUCKLAND, March 27.
In an attempt tonight to lower the New Zealand record for 100 yards backstroke, the Christchurch swimmer. C. Cliff, registered 65 3-5, breaking the time of P. G. Mathieson, Auckland, by three-fifths of a second.
The 100 yards invitation scratch freestyle race was won by P. Hanan, Auckland, who beat the New Zealand sprint champion, R. Hatch well, Wellington, by a yard, in 54 3-ssecs.
