GOLF SEASON
ACTIVITIES OF MASTERTON CLUB. OFFICIAL OPENING ON SATURDAY (By “Handicapper.”) The Masterton Golf Club’s links will be officially opened for play on Saturday next, April 1, and the usual mixed foursome will be played. The course, despite the dry conditions will be in excellent order for play and given good weather the opening should be one of. the most successful in the history of the club.
The match committee are to be congratulated on the arrangement of the programme for the season. The president’s and captain’s trophy competitions will be commenced early in the season and will be played each Saturday until finalised. The match committee is considering the matter of optional competitions during Easter and these will be arranged proyided sufficient entries are forthcoming.
The new club professional, Mr Harry Wilkins, has now taken over his duties and is available to every member of the club. Several of our prominent members including Mr Campbell-Heard and our new club captain, Mr Charles Marsack, have already received considerable benefit from his coaching and we have no doubt his services will be of great assistance to members in reducing their handicaps. Golfers will have the opportunity of seeing him in action during the visit of the two leading Australian professionals when he, in partner with one of our leading amateurs, will play an exhibition round on the Lansdowne links.
Another innovation this year will be the playing of a mixed foursome toward the end of April and it is hoped that all out members will take part in this competition. The writer is pleased to see so many new members joining up this season, included amongst them being such seasoned players as Walter Batty and W. J. Rew.
