There is no law compelling Alsatian dogs to be kept on a leash, according to a report by the city inspector to a meeting of the Invercargill City Council. The inspector, who reported as the result of a recent complaint by Cr A. Wachner, said that various moves by farmers’ organisations in the past to have registration of such dogs increased to £lO, or have them excluded from the country, have borne no fruit, and an Alsation was on the same footing as a Pomeranian or any 7 other dog in law. He understood that matters were better regulated in Germany, where those animals came from.
