OPEN AIR SCHOOLS
NEW ZEALAND SYSTEM PRAISED. SHOULD BE COPIED ELSEWHERE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. March 27. Expressing high praise for New Zealand open air schools, Sir Bruce H. Porter, M.D., K.8.E., said today that these schools should be copied in every country in the world. Sir Bruce has now retired after a medical career in England, during which he took an active part in branches of medicine related to public health and welfare, and in army medical work. He said he had been particularly impressed with the New Zealand open air schools. Other countries waited till the children were broken down in health before putting them into such schools. New Zealand was building them for children who were still healthy, and thus taking measures to preserve their health.
He had been very much impressed by the low New Zealand, death rate, but as he had not yet fully investigated conditions here, he was not prepared to discuss other medical matters.
