LONDON QUOTATIONS BUTTER MARKET QUIET. CHEESE PRICES UNCHANGED. A decline of 2s a cwt last week brought the London price of New Zealand butter down to 116 s a cwt, compared with 114 s a year ago. The present price is 8s 3d a cwt below the London equivalent of the guaranteed price. The market is quiet. Friday’s closing quotations for butter, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand, salted, 116 s (118 s a year ago, 114 s); unsalted, 120 s to 122 s (1225; a year ago, 119 s to 120 s). Australian, salted, 114 s to 115 s (117 s unsalted, 115 s to 116s’ (118 s Argentine, unsalted, 109 s to Ills (not quoted). Danish, 114 s f.0.b.; 135 s to 136 s spot (114 s 135 s to 1365). Dutch, unsalted, 114 s ex 117 s (114 s to 115 s).
Polish, salted, 113 s (115 s unsalted, 114 s (115 s South Africa, 109 s to 112 s (113 s to 115 s).
Retail prices are unchanged, New Zealand at Is 3d to Is 2d a lb, and Danish at Is 4d.
The present price of 116 s is equal to approximately 13.83 d a lb, f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 a lb., f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124 s 3d a cwt. The equivalent price of cheese is about 6.7 d a lb, f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d.
Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week totalled 1672 tons. The quantity in, store on Friday, including 658 tons ex Rimutaka, Waipawa and Tainui, was 5618 tons, as against 5134 tons a year ago.
Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 1876 tons, the quantity in, store being 4567 tons, as against 3643 tons a year ago.
The market for cheese is quiet, New Zealand white and coloured being unchanged at 60s a cwt, as against 68s 6d to 69s 6d a year ago. Friday’s closing prices, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: White and coloured, 60s (60s; a year ago, 68s 6d to 69s 6d). Australian: White, 53s to 56s (54s to 575); coloured, 54s to 58s (56s to 58s). Canadian: White, 71s to 74s (72s to 735); coloured, 72s to 735, ex 74s (735); old season’s coloured, 82s (82s).
English: Finest farmers, 86s to 96s (86s to 965); factory cheese, 63s to 64s (625).
South African: White, 57s to 58s (not quoted). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 15,510 crates the quantity in store on Friday being 93,791 crates, as against 59,615 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 93,000 boxes, compared with 76,515 boxes a year ago.
Cheese gradings in New Zealand for the week ended March 18 were 18,633 crates of white and 10,317 crates of coloured, a total of 28,950 crates.
