Wairarapa Times-Age MONDAY, MARCH 27, 1939. THE PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP.

JT may be truly said that it is the dream of practically every married couple in Masterton to one day own their 'home. It has been often stated that an Englishman’s home is his eastle, the centre of his life and everything that he holds dear. The same may be claimed for those house-owning residents of Masterton who have the responsibility of a. wife and family upon their shoulders. To own a. house is to secure a stake in the town, carrying with it that additional pride which ownership brings. It is a safeguard for the future; it removes one of those anxieties which constantly haunts those who are only tenants of a house —that of having the house sold over their heads and having to face the difficult problem of finding another suitable habitation. Ownership of a house, provides, too, a financial stability in that there is no uncertainty as to what the outgoing expense in the way of rent will be from month to month.

It should be the aim of every sensible young married couple to eventually own their home. There are always available facilities for securing a home on easy mortgage terms through a building society or other financial channels, so to the married Masterton resident who is in steady employment there can be no legitimate excuse forthcoming for not. possessing his own house. Of course, there are many whose employment is of such a nature that they must needs follow it where the greatest opportunity for work offers; and again others are in billets which bring in their train transfers to other towns from time to time. But to the average resident the way is open to secure a home of his own, and no man should take on the responsibilities of married life unless he has a fair chance of one day owning his own home —his duty to his wife and bis family demands this.

The “Ideal Homes” campaign in Masterton, which has just been brought to a successful conclusion, has placed before the public of Masterton the undeniable fact that, here there are facilities for building homes, with unequalled service associated with every part of such a desirable undertaking. The beauty of the modern homes in Masterton has been the subject of comment by admiring visitors, and the policy of the wise married couple should be to join that growing band of residents who own their homes.
