CROQUET

MASTERTON CLUB. SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT. A very successful day tournament was held on Friday last by the Masterton Club in aid of the funds of the tyairarapa Croquet Association. Visitors were present from the Eketahuna, Haunui, Lansdowne and Mauriceville chibs, and half-hour croquet kept players busy and interested. The weather was perfect and the lawns in good order but rather too keen for those players who are used to heavier greens. The members of the Masterton Club worked with a will in seeing that the players enjoyed themselves.

The winners were: “A” section: Mrs Donald (Haunui) 1; Mrs Jenkin (Masterton) 2. “B” group: Mrs Betteridge (Masterton) 1; Mrs Aitken .(Masterton) 2. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Staniforth and Mrs Snowsill.

After the prizes had been presented the President (Mrs Polson) thanked everyone for coming along to help the Association which had benefited considerably by the tournament. Mrs Wakely (President of the Association) then thanked the Masterton Club for having provided a very happy and successful time and called for three cheers which were heartily given. This brought to a close a very pleasant gathering.
