YOUNG FARMERS
CARTERTON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the fourth annual meeting of the Carterton Young Farmers’ Club Mr S. Fisher presided over an attendance of 36 members. Also present were Mr N. Lamont and Mr W. James and several members of the Masterton Club.
' The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: —Chairman, Mr A. D. Fisher; secretary, Mr M. Knutson; treasurer, Mr L. Renall; club reporter, Mr J. C. Thompson; committee, Messrs C. Bliss, B. Brassell, P. Swinn, M. Rose and T. Ward; advisory presidents, Messrs G. E. Allen and A. Ross. Messrs G. E. Allen, A. D. Fisher and M. -Knutson were appointed delegates to the annual meeting of the Wairarapa District Committee. The annual report signed by Mr W. S. Fisher states: —I have much pleasure in presenting to you the annual report of the club . The past year has been fairly successful both financially and in attendances at meetings' and activities of the club. We have 53 financial members with an average attendance of 24 which could and should be considerably improved upon by the help of the passenger members of the club. During the year 11 meetings were held, the months and lecturers were as follows: —April, club discussion on “The Live Stock Embargo.” May, addresses by Messrs H. McKenzie and A. Fisher on their Australian trip. June, address by Mr M. Davey on “Establishment and Maintenance of a Homestead Orchard.” July, debate by club members, Town v. Country; judge, Mr E. Fisher. August, lantern lecture by Mr N. Lamont on “Common Pests.” September, lecture by .Mr G. E. Allen on “Sheepfarming.” October, lecture by Mr W. Gray, Government Vetinarian on “Stock Diseases.” November, Mr S. Freeman with new talkie apparatus. December, no meeting held. January, lecture by Mr N. Lamont, “Grass Seed Mixtures.” February, lecture by Mr E. P. Neilsen on “Pig Management.” The club also took part in the district debating contest, defeating Greytown in the first round but were defeated by Martinborough in the second round. Activities during the year were as follows: —On May 2 the annual combined ball was held in conjunction with the Women’s Division and proved a great success. In June a trip was made to the Palmerston North Show, also seven members went on the North Island tour organised by the Wairarapa District Committee. On July 26 the birthday party was held at which the Women’s Division were the guests of the club. During the year two other dances were held and were very successful. A field day was held at the training farm but the attendance of club members was’ disappointing. The club is deeply indebted to the following for services rendered: —Mr G. E. Allen, Advisory President; Mr S. Freeman, Organising Secretary; Mr N. Lamont, District Secretary; Mr A. E. Robinson, hon. auditor; the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society for use of their rooms for meetings, and the Press for publicity. I also wish to thank the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union for their co-operation during the year. I would also like to thank the committee and members for their support during the year and to impress upon them the need for their greater support in the coming year if the Young Farmers’ Club movement is to flourish.
