DESTROYED IN TANGARAKAU DISTRICT. MANY LAMBS DESTROYED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 24. A giant boar measuring 6ft 6in from snout io the end of its tail was recently shot in the Tangarakau district, lhe animal, which was a fearsomelooking monster, was suspected to killng numerous lambs in the past few masons. Its tusks were outstanding, though one was slightly damaged. Surprised at dawn as it was about .o cross a ridge into the bush, the pig was brought to earth by Mr C. P. Wicksieed, Stratford, with a .22 rifle pullet fired at 25 yards. The bullet entered the boar behind the ear and speedily put an end to an outlaw that nad for years been a real menace to saeep life on properties in the neighbourhood.

The party of hunters, which also included Mr H. Rosewarne, used their dogs to enable them to get within striking distance. Once it had been bailed the gaint of the hills showed little fight, however, and gave but a poor indication of the ferocity a snecator might reasonably enough have given it the credit of possessing.

Mr Wicksteed later said that the bear was in first-class condition. So fat was the animal that a knife could b" entered into the neck up to the hilt ’■'-.fere touching bone. The pig’s tail Mr Wicksteed described as being the finest he had seen. The district in which it was killed was said to be 'ceming with pigs. Proof of this was 'r>v the beg of 31 caught by the party on this particular occasion. On an--40 nip’s were taken.

The owner of the property on which g’ant boar was shot stated that of lambs in the oast could be n‘t’-ibuted to the depredations of this n(g and he fully exn°cted to see an improvement in the lambing percentage next, season. '
