Troops were hastily called out to guard Woolwich Arsenal early this morning following a series of terrific explosions caused by the bursting of oxygen cylinders in the medical store shed of the Royal Military College of Science, near. Woolwich Common. The shed caught fire and was completely destroyed, but no other buildings were involved. Firemen had narrow escapes from flying metal. The explosions continued for more than 30 minutes, accompanied by vivid flashes which lit up the neighbourhood. Windows over a wide area were shattered.
A bomb exploded in a street in Coventry yesterday, shattering windows within a radius of 200 yards. It is believed that members of the Irish Republican Army were responsible.
