MINIATURE RIFLES CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

(“Times-Age” Special.)

The annual meeting of the Carterton Miniature Rifles Club was held in the State Theatre last night. There was an excellent attendance of members and intending members. The president (Mr Ross Hawker), presided. Prior to the commencement of the business the president referred to the death of Mr A. F. Stubbs, and asked members to stand In silence as a mark of respect to the memory of deceased. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing a credit balance of £8 12s 5d which was considered very satisfactory.

The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr G. W. Busby (reelected); president, Mr Ross Hawker (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs D. L. Taverner, Ben Sewell, Joe Udy, Basil Gayfer, B. Roberts, M.P., J. A. B. Lawrence, F. Yule, J. L. Harris, H. H. L. Meyrick, W. Press, G. A. Vincent, G. H. Hawker, Witscombe and Caldwell, H. Keltie, Hill and Hughes;' W. A. Linton, W. Moroney; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. J. De Lacey (re-elected); management committee, Messrs R. Taucher, Geo Sewell, J. T. Bridge, N. F. Teal, Rex Porter, Misses A. McPhie and Pauling; captain, Mr Rex Porter; vice-captain, Mr J. T. Bridge; delegates to Wairarapa Miniature Rifle Association, Messrs W. Press, R. Taucher and R. Hawker; referee and team selectors, Messrs H. Torrey and W. Press; scrutineers and handicappers, Messrs. C. J. De Lacey and R. Hawker," hon auditor, Mr H. H. L. Meyrick. The Secretary was asked .to' forward a letter of sympathy to Mr Meyrick in his illness and to wish him a speedy recovery. It was resolved to open the season for practice on Tuesday, April 4, at. 7 o’clock .It was decided that working bees be formed to put the range in order during the weeks ending March 25 and April 1. As many members as possible are asked to be in attendance. The secretary was given a bonus for his past year’s services and his work was eulogised by the members. The secretary intimated he would donate a cup for competition among the junior members of the Club. The gift was appreciated. ... Personal. Bros Jas Fisher and Jas M. Nicholls have been appointed as delegates to represent the Foresters’ Lodge, Carterton, at- the annual district conference to be held in Wellington. The friends of Miss Cliff,' of Kent Strb'df, Carterton, will be sorry to lea?n ; "that she’ has found it' necessary to enter Masterton Hospital for treatment. BOY SCOUTS. WEEKLY CARD TOURNAMENT. There was a large attendance at the weekly card tournament in connection with the Carterton Troop of the Boy Scouts, held in St Mary’s Hall, Carterton, last night. The prizes were won by Mrs R. Gallon and Mrs Geo Steffert (ladies) and . Miss Corlet (acting, as a man) and F. O’Keefe (men). Supper was provided. Grass Fire. A grass fire in Brooklyn Road last evening caused some anxiety while it lasted. A fair area of dry grass was burned before the fire was got under control.. It is believed the fire was started by children using a magnifying glass. The brigade was not called out. Bowser Broken. When Mr Gibb Johnston arrived at the premises of the South Wairarapa Motors this morning he found one of his kerb petrol pumps badly smashed and leaning against another. It appeared as if the pump had been struck by a lorry. The police have the matter in hand.
