COSY THEATRE
“THE GREAT GAMBINI.’,'
“The Great Gambini” and “The Arizona Raiders,” will be shown finally tonight.
“BOOTS AND SADDLES.”
Gene Autry’s latest production, “Boots and Saddles,” comes to the Cosy Theatre tomorrow. Gene presents an excellent performance, with his usual catchy songs and his nonchalant manner. In the course of the production he reforms two-horse-rustlers, and a spoiled ten-year-old youngster as well. Assisted by an able cast including “Smiley Burnett,” Ronnie Sinclair, Dunedin boy star; Judith Allen and Guy Usher, it is no wonder that Autry’s latest picture has been eagerly awaited by his admirers. Spud, young owner of the ranch Gene Autry manages, arrives in America to sell it to Neale, an unscrupulous rancher. Neale, intending to use the ranch for training army horses, is furious when Autry suggests to Spud that he do likewise without selling the property. The entire production is packed with action and the climax is particularly thrilling.
In the second attraction Edith Fellows and Leo Carrillo, co-stars of “Little Miss Roughneck,” appear in “City Streets,” a comedy drama. The film, a heart-warming drama of the sidewalks of New York, and is recommended for its human, wholesome entertainment, its fine cast and splendid narrative. Carrillo scores as usual with his amusing dialect, portraying a neighbourhood Italian grocer. Edith Fellows is a distinct surprise. Heretofore usually seen as a spoiled child, she now plays a sympathetic role, a crippled waif who is adopted by the good-natur-ed Italian. In a straight dramatic part she proves as effective and talented as she was when singing, dancing or clowning.
