WINDOW DISPLAYS

JUDGING TODAY. IDEAL HOMES COMPETITION. Many attractive window displays are a feature of the Masterton shops today. It is the occasion of the officialjudging of a window display competition held in connection with the “Ideal Homes" season which ends on Saturday.

When this co-operative effort by retailers was decided upon some weeks ago, this window dressing competition was stressed as one of the most important features of the campaign. An attractive display of goods in shop windows, it was felt, would forcibly present to the public the range and quality of the goods which local stores, had to offer. That is clearly indicated today and the. goods are-displayed in a particularly appealing manner, a high standard of window dressing being’attained. The official judge of the competition is Mr R. B. Forsyth, accounts executive of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Wellington. Mr Forsyth will arrive in Masterton this afternoon and will make a preliminary inspection of the windows before 6 p.m. After dark he will again inspect the windows and make his final decision taking into consideration the effect of the lighting arrangements.

The judge’s decision will be kept under seal and not announced until Monday morning next. The reason for this is so that every facility and full time will be*available to the public for a judging competition, entry forms and details of which are available from any of the stores. That competition closes on Monday next at 8 a.m. and both results will be announced together. The public competition simply entails a close inspection of the windows and an attempt to place the best four windows in the order chosen by the official judge. Prizes will be awarded to the two competitors whose placing of the windows most closely approximates that of the judge. An entry form will be published in tomorrow’s “Times-Age” or can be secured from my of the stores participating in the campaign. Mr Forsyth will be entertained at dinner at the Midland Hotel at 6.15 p.m. today by the retailers participating in the campaign. The following stores have entered windows in the competition: — Wairarapa Power Board, J. Bouzaid. Community Stores (2 windows). J. Ninnes (2), Arts and Crafts (2), C. E. Daniell Ltd. (2), N. R.
