WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION.

ANNUAL REPORT.

(“Times-Age” Special.)

The annual report of the Wairarapa Rugby Union states inter alia: Your Executive, in presenting the Annual Report for the 1938 Season, regrets that the standard of play showed no irriprovement on the lean years of the past, and if the desired improvement is to be brought about, then it is for the Delegates to take the necessary action. Losses on the following accounts are shown:—School Account £l5; Accident Insurance Account £7 Os 6d; Memorial Park Account £146 7s lOd. A serious falling off in gate receipts at both Club and Representative games is explained by the poor Rugby played in Senior Grade games, and it is the players’ part to show the necessary improvement that will again win public patronage. With regret we record that players did not avail themselves of the Insurance Scheme, players’ subscriptions showing a decline on the previous year by a considerable sum, and it is hoped that all players will, in the coming season, subscribe to the Fund. Excellent service was given by members of the Referees Association, who gave a lot of time to consideration of how best to improve the game from a playing point of view, which is quite a problem aS the rules are written today. Messrs E. McKenzie (Senior). and Keith Reid (Junior) carried out the duties of Sole Selectors, for which the thanks of the Union are due. The New Zealand Rugby Union appointed Mr E. McKenzie Sole Selector, and he chose the All Black Team which had a successful tour of Australia. Our thanks are tendered to the St John Ambulance Brigade, Club Coaches, G. D. Wilson, Hon Solicitor. Club Secretaries and those supporters who assisted the Union by donation. For the Committee, H. A. McPhee, Chairman.
