PORTRAYS THIRTY ROLES
TRACY’S RECORD. Spencer Tracy said it couldn’t be done—but he did it. He portrayed thirty roles, ranging in type from Gman to gangster, and all in one production. Written, directed and photographed by his young son, John Tracy, the film, done entirely in colour, promises to set a new record for the Academy Award winner.
“We really worked,” said Tracy. “We’d start to shoot when I arrived home from the studio, and work until the sun set. I played thirty roles, Mrs Tracy played fifteen, sister Suzy played ten, and the gardener obliged with four or five characterisations.” Since John was writer, director and cameraman, he reserved the right tc play but one role, according to his father. “But his role averaged more footage than that of the rest of the family put together,” Tracy laughed, “and they were all. close-ups/’
