CANNED SALMON
BIG CANADIAN INDUSTRY. OTTAWA. Canadian canned salmon today constitutes one of the largest single industries in the Dominion, and the name "Canada” stamped on the tins assures the purchaser, whether at home or abroad, of the high quality of this product. Government Inspectors are. stationed in all salmon canneries to make sure that only the finest quality fish of the various grades are used. The Canadian canned salmon industry is centralised on the Pacific coast as the Eastern salmon is not sufficiently plentiful to provide much more than an idea! sporting fish for anglers. Canada’s pack of canned salmon for 1938 is estimated at 1,697,000 cases of 48 one-pound tins. This compares with 1,509,200 cases in 1937. Exports of Canadian canned salmon in 1938 amounted to 488,400cwts. valued at 7,128,194 dollars, going to 33 different countries.
