VALUE OF SERVICE CONDITIONS FARMERS’ UNION COMPETITION. “We have got to take up this question of defending ourselves, not enoueh of us are learning to shoot,” observed Mr J. C. Cooper at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union when it was reported that the Farmers’ Union rifle shooting competition would this year be held under match instead of service conditions. Mr Cooper favoured service conditions. Match conditions, he said was onlv playing at shooting, which should be held under war conditions at 2000 or 3000 yards with telescopic sights. Every farmers’ son should be taught how to handle a rifle.
