The Governor-General. Lord Galway, accompanied by Lady Galway. Captain Lord Dormer and Captain R. Stuart French, left Dunedin yesterday morning for Pembroke and will go on to Queenstown tomorrow. The party will return to Dunedin at the end of the week on its return to Wellington. Mr K. McPhun, of Brooklyn, who was the guest of his aunt, Mrs Carstens, Essex Street, Masterton, has returned home.

Mr B. J. Moyle has been reappointed for a further term of two years a member of the Canterbury Land Board.

Mr and Mrs I. I. McGregor, who recently returned from a trip to England and the continent, are at present staying in Masierton. Sir Julien Cahn, who has been visiting New Zealand with his team of cricketers, and Lady Cahn, will leave Auckland by the Niagara for Vancouver today.. The Hon, W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, will leave Wellington for Auckland by the Limited express tonight. He will accompany the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, on his inspection of manufacturing industries in the Auckland district. Mr Parry will return to Wellington on Monday. Mr and Mrs W. Lambie, of Napier, and formerly of Masterton, are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. G. Eton, Cornwall Street, Masterton. Mr Lambie in his younger days was a well known footballer, playing for the Wairarapa representatives on many occasions. Until a few seasons ago a son of Mr Lambie’s played regularly for the Hawke’s Bay representatives. At the conference at Auckland of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Odd Fellows the following officers have so far been elected: —Grand Master, Bro N. B. Bellringer (Taranaki district); deputy-Grand Master, Bro N. J. McKay (Hawke’s Bay); directors, Bros W. B. Brown, P.D.G.M. (Wellington), J. A. Ivory, P.D.G.M. (Ashley), J. E. Wilson, F. A. Smith (Auckland), G. Wilson (Wanganui), and A. Gow, P.D.G.M. (North Canterbury). The death has " occurred of Mrs Helen Fergusson Laurenson, widow of Mr George Laurenson, M.P. for Lyttelton for several years, till he died in 1913, says a Press Association telegram from Christchurch. Mrs Laurenson was a daughter of Mr James Tait, Christchurch. She is survived by two sons and five daughters, Messrs G. L. Laurenson, Commissioner of - Transport and Dr J. T. Laurenson and Misses F. J. and M. Laurenson, Christchurch, Mrs W. A. Johnston, Lincoln, and Mrs Guy Ring, Waikato. “The board mourns the loss of one who always had the interests of suffering humanity at heart,” said the chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, Mr J. A. Nash, when unveiling a photograph of the late Mr J. K. Hornblow at yesterday’s meeting of the board. The photograph was presented to the board by Mr Hornblow’s wido'w and members of his family,, who were present at the unveiling ceremony. Mr Nash said Mr Hornblow had been a member of the hospital board for many years, and was chairman for eight years. His services to the community had not been confined to the hospital board, and his work on public bodies had extended over a lifetime. He was a great social worker, and his great aim in life was to make those who were unfortunate more comfortable. Mr Hornblow was held in the highest esteem not only by members of the hospital board but by the whole staff. Mr Nash'then unveiled the photograph to “one who. had devoted a large part of his life to helping his fellow-man and suffering humanity.”
