A prolonged blast, like twenty trumpets all blown lustily , on a different note, shattered the calm of Dee Street, Invercargill, at about '12.30 p.m. on a recent day. .People ran to doorways and windows to find the cause of the cacophony, and startled pedestrians halted in their tracks. The innocent cause of it all did not appear to relish the attention he commanded. He was a motorist driving a new sedan car with a powerful double horn. He evidently meant to give only a mild toot, but the horn jammed and he had to drive along several blocks to a raucous accompaniment until he j found haven in a garage where the I roar died away, to a muffled moan before being extinguished by expert hands.
