AUCKLAND, This Day. Thp cricket mptch was resumed 'this, morning in hot, windless weather. Matheson started brightly and got seven rpits off Wash’s M'st over. The English bowlers quickly got their length and steadied thp Apcßland batting. Walsh, with a combination of flight and spin and an immaculate length, became difficult to play. Pearson also hit well. Runs came quickly ad Matheson swung Walsh to the leg fence to send 200 up. The English fielding was crisp and keen. The batsmen found it hard to get the ball away. -Both bowlers developed great accuracy and the batsmen settled down to play them on their merits. With the score at 215 Jackson replaced Smith, and Pearson cut him for two to reach 50. The Auckland batting was a distinct improvement on that of Saturday. The score at this stage was eight for 222 (Matheson not out 20, Pearson not ■ ■,ut 56, extras 11). ' A J
