INTOXICATED DRIVER
FOUND DRIVING IN ERRATIC MANNER. FINE OF £2O IMPOSED. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) ' PALMERSTON N., This Day. Stated by the police to be a third offender, Frank Bertie Hewson, a wickerworker, aged 54, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to being intoxicated while in charge of a car on the Himatangi Road on Saturday. The police stated that the constable at Foxton was telephoned by a motorist who said the accused was driving in an erratic manner. Before the constable left for the scene he received another message that two motorists had detained the accused at Himatangi. The accused was found by Constable Bevery much intoxicated. The earlier offences were in respect of a motor cycle,’ in 1924 and of a motor car in 1926.
The Magistrate (Mr H. P. La wry) pointing out that it was thirteen years since the last offence, imposed a fine of £2O and prohibited Hewson from driving for three years.
