“ONE-TRACK MIND”

THE GERMAN REJOINDER TO MR CHAMBERLAIN SPEECH NOT REPORTED IN NEWSPAPERS. NEED FOR CONSULTATION DENIED. BERLIN, March 19. An official statement issued in Berlin to the foreign Press accuses Mr Chamberlain with failing objectively to judge events, and declares that 'Britain has a one-track mind. The statement rejects Mr Chamberlain’s claim for consultation regarding Czechoslokavia, asserting that it is no more incumbent on Germany to coni cede this than for Britain to consult Germany on a purely British affair. The British Broadcasting Corporation rebroadcast Mr Chamberlain’s speech verbatim in German. The newspapers in Berlin do not report the speech and do not comment on Sir Nevile Henderson’s recall. Columns are devoted to Herr Hitler’s triumphant visit to Vienna. The Fuehrer left Vienna after all-night conferences with his advisers for Berlin, which is lavishly decorated for a triumphal procession. BRITAIN’S POWER FAR GREATER THAN SIX MONTHS AGO. PREMIER ON OUTLOOK. LONDON, March 17. Responding to a vote of thanks at the conclusion of his speech in Birmingham. the British Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) said: — “We need not be down-hearted. This great nation is far more powerful than it was even six months ago, and acts of violence and injustice will bring forth sooner or later their own reward. Every one of these incursions raises fresh dangers for Germany in the future. I venture the prophecy that in the end she will bitterly regret what her Government has done."
