Mr J. Butler, of the Employment Division of the Labour Department, Wellington, has been appointed district agent for the Social Security Department in Dannevirke. ’ Mr Butler is a well-known Rugby footballer and has represented both Wellington and Auckland. He has been a member of the Marist Brothers’ Old Boys’ Club for many years.

The funeral of the late Mr J. A. Munro, which took place on Saturday afternoon, was largely attended, many residents of the Tinui district being present. A number of beautiful wreaths were in evidence. The Rev John Davie officiated and the pallbearers were Messrs Hugh Munro (Petone), R. Munro (Tinui), A. Munro (Masterton), Colin Percy (Te Ore Ore), A. Mason (Pongaroa) and P. Frances (Dannevirke).

Mr William H. Claris, the Public Works engineer who was killed on Friday afternoon when a Miles Magister aeroplane crashed near the aerodrome boundary on Great- Barrier Island, was a native of Wellington. He was a son of Mr and Mrs W. H. J. Claris, Hataitai. His father is engaged in farming in Taranaki, and his mother was visiting Taranaki when the accident occurred, though she is still residing in Hataitai. Mrs Horsbrugh, Masterton, is a sister, and Mr Keith Claris, a school teacher in the Pahiatua district is a brother. At the annual dinner of the Red Star Cricket Club on Saturday night several speakers referred in eulogistic terms to the excellent services Mr Gordon- Peterson had rendered the club as secretary for a number of years and as captain. It was stated that the flourishing membership of the club was largely due to the energy of Mr Peterson, who had always devoted special attention to the juniors. Messrs A. Bell and Pawson expressed the gratitude of- junior, .teams to Mr Peterson for his help, advice and. encouragement which was at all times most willingly given. Mr Peterson was accorded musical honours.-
