LONDON QUOTATIONS. HEAVYWEIGHT LAMBS EASIER. Lamb market: Heavyweights shade easiers, others unchanged. Consumption is increasing. Mutton market: Wethers, steady with demand quiet. Ewes, trade generally slow, but lightweights firmer. Beef market: Chilled beef, prices firmer on the lighter supplies this week. N.Z. porker pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. N.Z. baconer pigs: Steady, with prices unchanged. Boneless bobby veal: Firmer on the better inquiry. The above report was received by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen.meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses:— New Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 481 b and under, 4Jd (43d); 491 b to 561 b, 4 l-8d (4 l-8d); 571 b to 641 b, 3 7-8 d (4d); 651 b to 721 b, 3 5-8 d (3 5-8 d); ewes, 481 b and under, 27-8 d (2Jd); 491 b to 561 b, 23-8 d (23-8 d 571 b to 641 b., 2.}d (&Jd); 651 b to 721 b, 2 l-8d (2 l-8d). Messrs Levin and'Co., Ltd., have leceived the following cable from their London agents, dated March 16:— “Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, e t c ). —North Island Down lambs, 28/361bs. 7Jd per lb., 36/421bs. 6Jd per lb.- best North Island xbd. lambs, 28/361bs. 7d per lb., 36/421bs. 6Jd per lb.; North Island second quality lambs, av.’ 30/311b5., 6Jd per lb.; best North Island wether sheep, under 48 lbs. 4.]d per lb., 48/561bs. 4’d per lb.. 56/641bs. ild per lb., 64/721bs. ’32d per lb.; North Island ewes, under 48 lbs. 2Jd per lb„ 48/56’s 2“d per lb., 56/64’s 2|d per lb., 64,/72’s 2Jd per Ibi; N.Z. prime ox beef, 160/220, none offering. Compared with last week’s quotations, Down and xbred lambs, 36/421b5., are Jd per lb. lower, second quality lambs Id per lb. lower, wethers 56/641bs. Jd. per lb. lower, ewes under 481bs. Ad per lb. higher. Others are unchanged. There are no signs of improvement in prices at the present.
