CARNIVAL FINALE

FUN, SPORTS & DISPLAYS . IN PARK AFTERNOON AND EVENING PROGRAMME. BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY-Y.M.C.A. APPEAL. The carnival spirit is abroad today in the Park, where the Masterton Beautifying Society and the Y.M.C.A. are making their final appeal to the public in conclusion of the past week’s effort to raise funds. Many spectacular events are being presented in the Park this afternoon and evening. This afternoon’s programme includes athletic contests and displays of marching, etc. by the inter-house girls’ teams, massed school children and Scouts. The highlight of this evening’s events will be an impressive fireworks display, which will be well worth seeing. Another display of general interest will be that to be given by the Y.M.C.A. gymnastic squad, in which a telegraph pole will be used for some of the turns. Both this afternoon and evening produce, flowers, sweets, cakes, etc., are on sale and there is also a jumble stall, a bran tub and a left parcel stall. At the produce stall such goods as bottled preserves, jams, sauces, and cream (for which containers should be brought) are on sale. There are plenty of sideshows, including such attractive features as flying balls, roll downs, knock downs, topsv turvey, archery, hoopla, coconut shy,’ darts, Mickey Mouse, etc. A rifle range, nail driving and a weight guessing competition will find many patrons and boats are .available for hire on the lake. ' The Master lon Municipal Band will be in attendance.

LAST NIGHT’S CABARET. GATHERING IN MUNICIPAL HALL. The cabaret held in the Municipal Hall last evening was well patronised and the occasion proved to be a most enjoyable one. Bright music was supplied by Jack Mackay’s Novelty Syncopators and additional attractions that proved to be popular with patrons were the presentation of ballets, under the direction of Miss Dorothy Tate, from the "Debutantes’ Revue.” and of tap ballet dances by the pupils of Miss Betty Holmwood.
