Other events were decided and good races resulted in most cases. There was keen competition in the principal races and some excellent times were registered. The officials were efficient in their Work, and the judges, Messrs C. Holland, F. Booth, A. Lane and T. Lawrence to present the Interclub Cup to the winner, Quentin Desmond. In doing so Mr Lawrence thanked the club for giving him the honour of making the presentation. It was a very pleasant function for him to perform and he had great pleasure in handing the cup to a very promising young swimmer. He felt sure by his observations that Quentin Desmond would become a great swimmer and would before many seasons be the Wairarapa champion; in fact he predicted greater achievements for him. He had a worthy club mate, who had come second to him, in A. Pinfold, and this young swimmer would also make his mark in the swimming world. He congratulated both contestants, Quentin Desmond as the winner for 1939 and A. Pinfold a worthy second. He then handed the cup to the winner and in doing so said the' coveted trophy had now been 10 years in competition and had many names engraved upon it and was becoming more valuable each year.
