SMALL MECHANISED FORCE IN AUSTRALIA FIRST SECTION APPROVED BY CABINET. PEACE AND WAR STRENGTH. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day. Australia’s new standing army is being raised. The first section of it, which has been approved by Cabinet, will be fully mechanised. The Minister of Defence, Mr G. A. Street, stated that the ultimate peace time establishment of 7,500 troops would involve an increase in case of war to a strength of between nine and ten thousand men. PROJECTED RESERVE MEMBERS OF IMPERIAL FORCES (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The establishment' of a reserve of members of the Australian Imperial Forces and former members of British and other Dominion armies to raise front line units from peace to war establishment on mobilisation has been approved by the Federal Ministry.
