EKETAHUNA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SHOW. AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Horticultural and Industrial Show held by the Eketahuna Women’s Institute was an outstanding success, and was opened by Mrs Patterson, of Pahiatua. The competition in connection with the display of work by local Women’s Institutes resulted as follow: —Hamua, 1; Rongokokako, 2; Kaiparoro, 3. Eketahuna made a display but did not compete. / In the handwork section first prizes were won by Miss Sorensen, Mrs Fraser (6), Mrs Price, Mrs Albrechtsen, Miss L. Dick, Mrs Morriss, Miss Mitchell, Miss Herbert and Miss Koce. First prizes in cut flowers and dahlias were won by Mrs Capstick (2), Mrs Oliver (7), Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Schormann, Mrs Simmers, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Carter (2), Mrs Koce (2), Mrs Sinclair (3), Mrs Boyes, Mrs Morriss, Mrs Albrechtsen, Mrs Davies (2), Miss, Sigvertsen, Mrs McAlister, Mr Grantham. The following won first prizes in the industrial section: Mrs Dick (3), Mrs Goggin (3), Mrs Sinclair, Mrs Albrechtsen, Miss Sigvertsen, Mrs Schormann, Mrs Walker, Mrs Baucke (2), Mrs Hobbs (2) and Mrs Richardson. Decorative first prizes went to Mrs Carruthers (2), Mrs Boyes and Mrs Fraser. In vegetables those who were awarded first prizes were Mrs Carruthers (2), Miss Parry, Mrs Fox (3), Mrs Morriss, Mrs Oliver (4), Mrs Olsen, Mrs Anderson and Mrs Albrechtsen. Personal. Mr F. Robinson is a victim of the prevailing influenza epidemic. Mr J. K. Ryan, of the Railway 'Accounts Office, Petone, son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Ryan, Hamua, has received notice of transfer to Addington, with headquarters at Ngahere, West Coast. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB. MEETING AT BALLANCE. The fifth annual meeting of the Ballance Young Farmers’ Club was held recently. Mr W. Holdaway presided over a large attendance of members. . The balance sheet showed a credit of £l5 18s 3d. The financial membership is 21. Messrs N. Lamont and C. Wilton congratulated the officers and members on the sound position of the club. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: Patron, Mr J. H. Bremner; advisory president, Mr A. R„ Burke; chairman, Mr J. F. Bremner; secretary, Mr H. Wiltoh; treasurer, Mr M.' Ross; general committee, Messrs C. Eddie, L. Sinclair, W. Holdaway; club reporter, Mr W. Holdaway; auditor, Mr J. A. Walsh (re-elected). Mr N. Lamont, district secretary, briefly spoke regarding future activities of the Wairarapa clubs, which included a judging day to be held in Masterton, educational weeks in Hastings and Wanganui and a’tour of part of the South Island by a Wairarapa party in June. Several arrangements were made for the combined field day to be held on Wednesday, March 22, for which a very interesting’ programme has’ been arranged.
