POWER BOARD FINANCE

APPLICATIONS FOR LOAN MONEYS. NOW UP TO THE MILLION MARK. ("Times-Age” Special.) "Last year applications by power boards for loan money amounted to £BOO,OOO. but this year they had reached the million mark.” observed the Secretary-Manager. Mr G. Brown, at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. Mr Brown said he did not anticipate that the board, whose finances were in sound order, would experience any great difficulty in raising the loan money it required. On the other hand it would not be wise to undertake any major works until the money was actually received. He had heard of the banks refusing to hypothecate the stock of a large power board. The chairman, Mr A. C. Pearce: "They would not refuse to deal with a large public body like this board.”

Mr Brown: "Probably not, but the position is rather obscure.’’ Mr H. P. Hugo: "It is certainly uncertain.”
