STOCK MARKET
JOHNSONVILLE VALUES.
GOOD SALE FOR BULLOCKS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A large yarding of all classes of cattle was offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., at the Johnsonville stock sale yesterday. The bullocks penned comprised chiefly heavyweight cattle with a few pens of light and unfinished sorts. A good sale resulted for all classes of prime quality cattle with plain sorts hard to sell. Only a few pens of prime heavy cows came forward, the balance of the yarding comprising light and unfinished cows. Prime quality cows were sold with no alteration on last week, though plain cows were easier to the extent of 5/- a head. There was a larger yarding of runners and vealers than usual, and, with competition keen throughout, prices showed no alteration.
The wethers penned were of good quality with prices firm on last week. There was a good sale for ewes, with no alteration in prices. No prime quality lambs came forward, the yarding comprising chiefly second class lambs. On the quality, prices were 1 fully .1/6 to 2/- a head above export prices. Quotations are:—

SALE AT ADDINGTON. WETHERS ADVANCE IN PRICE. CHRISTCHURCH, March 15. Because of the short entry of ewes, wethers showed an advance in prices at the weekly stock market in Addington today. The entry of lambs in the store sheep section was smaller than for some time. Values did not show much change on the improved rates ruling a week ago but the market for better sorts was more buoyant. Good rape lambs sold at 10/6 to 12/8, and average sorts at 7/6 to 9/6, cull lines 4/6 to 5/6. Practically all classes of ewes showed a definite advance on the rates of a week ago.
The offering in fat lamb pens was one of the worst of the season, a big proportion of the entry of 1500 being indifferently finished. There was a keen sale for butchers’ good lambs, which developed from the outset and a
proportion made a good |d a ]b. more than the schedule. Butchers’ ewes were 2/- better than a week ago, and wethers ?./- to 1/6.
Heavyweight cattle met with an easing of about 10/- a head, this figure being exceeded occasionally. .Pens of good prime mediumweights, on the other hand, sold better than a week ago though lighter cattle and cows remained unaltered.
The fat pig section was the smallest this season and butchers’ requirements were exceptionally hard to fill. Lightweight porkers showed an advance of from 3/- to 4/- a head and heavyweights T/- to 2/-. MASTERTON SALE. IMPROVEMENT IN PRICES.
