“OLD FAITHFUL”
THE MASTERTON CENTRAL SCHOOL. TIMBERS SAID TO BE SOUND ' AS A BELL. (Contributed.) If any structure in Masterton, or indeed in Nev; Zealand, deserves to be given such a name as “Old Faithful” it surely must be that fine and faithful old building we know as Central School. First built in the year 1881 and added to during the years in which that other “Old Faithful,” Mr W. H. Jackson, held the reins, the timbers from blocks to roof are as sound as a bell and free from the slightest sign of borer. In winter the rooms are warm and in summer they are cool. In addition they are sound-proof. When, some time soon, the alterations that will modernise it a little are carried out, the building will be fit for as many more years of service as it has seen already. Its fine Assembly Hall is of immense value' in the cultivation of “school spirit" and character building and for numerous school activities, such as choir and drama work, and for his work in obtaining this Mr W. H. Jackson deserves the greatest commendation. Long may the old building live to carry on the tradition of yeoman service. > Old Faithful we salute you! I
