LONDON SALES GOOD COMPETITION. PRICES GENERALLY HIGHER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.45 p.m.) LONDON. March 14. The second series of the London wool sales commenced with an offering of 7237 bales, of which 4937 bales were from New Zealand, and 6587 bales were sold. It was a good selection, chiefly crossbreds, and met a keen demand and there was a good clearance, chiefly to the Home trade.
Compared with the close of the last series. Merinos were on a par, crossbreds generally in sellers’ favour and slipes par to 5 per cent, higher.
Some New Zealand realisations were: Greasy crossbred, Ruru, 9d and lOd: C.E.8., BJd and 9.? d; slipe half-bred lambs. Gear, 13d.
Messrs Levin and Co Ltd have received the following cable from their London agents, dated March 14: —“The auctions opened here today with a large attendance of Home and Continental buyers. There was good general competition with all sections of the trade buying, particularly Bradford. Compared with the closing rates of last sale the market generally is par to 5 per cent higher. Sliped wools particularly show a good demand, and prices .where changed are in the sellers’ favour. As at present arranged the sales will close on March 30.”'
