GUARANTEED PRICE
WANTED BY FRUITGROWERS.
VOTING AT NELSON MEETING. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NELSON, This Day. Mr J. Dicker, vice-president of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation, Ltd., presided over a fully representative meeting of Nelson fruitgrowers, the number present being in excess of IGO. Mr. C. F. Skinner, M.P., Mr. H. E. Stephens, Fruit Board chairman, Mr. A. Osborne, General Manager of the Fruitgrowers'. Federation and officers of the Horticultural Division are in attendance. Mr Dicker and Mr A. F. Stephens addressed the meeting, advising growers of the result of negotiations with the Minister of Marketing (the Hon. W. Nash). It was moved by Mr Dicker and seconded by Mr C. P. Stannard, •‘That this meeting recommend that the Internal Marketing Division take over the marketing of pip fruits for 1940 on a guaranteed price scheme similar to that operating in the dairy industry, the price to be based on the same method adopted at present in the dairy industry.”
The voting, which was limited to bona fide fruitgrowers, resulted: For, 100; against, 19.
