NO TIME FOR BICKERING
GREAT NEED FOR FIRM STAND. The time is past for bickering. This was the view put forward by Mr Anthony Eden in a recent speech in England? “If we share M. Herriot’s determination not to yield to threats,” he said, ::it is because we understand very clearly that to yield to threats is not to contribute to lasting peace but merely to make certain that at a later date still further demands will be made on those who yield to threats. It is good that at a time like this the solidarity between Great Britain and France is both close and complete. It was never more necessary, for France’s anxieties at this time are our anxieties, and our anxieties are France’s anxieties. We are both concerned for the political independence and territorial integrity of Spain whatever her form of government. The need for 1939 is a vigorous and united effort to make Britain strong, strong in arms so that she can be strong in'policy and purpose.”
