NUTRIENT SOLUTIONS
YIELDS FROM TOMATOES. TECHNIQUE NOT PERFECTED. In trials conducted at Jealott’s Hill Experimental Station, tomatoes grown in a nutrient solution without soil were compared with similar soil-grown plants in pots. The final average crop yields of marketable fruit for the two series were 6.41 b per plant for the soil-grown crop, and 4.21 b per plant for the crop grown in nutrient solution. Although much, no doubt, remains to be learned regarding the perfection of nutrient solutions, the experimenters point out that there'is as yet no proof that yields obtained nutrient solutions are as good as those obtained under the best soil conditions.
