LONDON QUOTATIONS BUTTER PRICES IMPROVE. CHEESE MARKET SLOW. There was a slight improvement in the London butter market last week, and New Zealand closed at 118/- a cwt. a rise of 1/- to 2/- on the closing quotations of the previous week. According to the cabled report, supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board, there was an improved demand at the end of the week. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows:— New Zealand: Salted, 118/- (116/- to 117/-; a year ago, 118/- to 119/-); unsalted, 122/- (121/- to 122/-; a year ago 119/- to 120/-). Australian: Salted, 115/- to 116/(113/- to 115/-); unsalted, 116/- to 117/(114/- to 116/-). Argentine: Unsalted, 109/- to 114/(110/- to 114/-). Danish: 118/- f.0.b., 140/- to 141/spot (121/-, 143/- to 144/-). Dutch: Unsalted, 114/- to 115/-, ex. 118/- (114/- to 118/-). Lithuanian: Unsalted, 121/-, ex 122/(122/-). Polish: Salted 'and unsalted, 114/(113/-). South Africa: 112/- to 114/- (not quoted). The retail price of New Zealand remains at 1/3 a lb., with Danish at 1/5. The present price of 118/- is equal to approximately 14.03 d. a lb., f.0.b., New Zealand ports, compared with the guaranteed price of 14.89 d. a lb. f.o.b. The London equivalent of the guaranteed price is 124/3 a cwt. ' The equivalent price of cheese is about 6.97 d. a lb., f.0.b., compared with the guaranteed price of 8.42 d. Deliveries of New Zealand butter from store last week were 1914 tons, compared with 1814 tons for the previous week and 2373 tons a year ago. The quantity in store last Friday, including 834 tons ex the Port Auckland, was 5023 tons, against 5289 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter last week were 2129 tons, and the quantity in store 4900 tons, compared with 2748 tons a year ago. The cheese market was slow last week, the price of New Zealand at 62/a cwt., showing a further decline of 1/on the week. Friday’s closing quotations with those for the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand: White and .coloured, 62/- (63/- to 63/6; a year ago, 68/6 to 69/-). Australian: White, 55/- to 58/- (56/to 60/-); coloured, 58/- to 60/- (60/- to 62/-). Canadian: White and coloured, 72/to 74/- (72/- to 74/-). Old season’s coloured, 63/6 (82/-). English finest farmers, 86/- to 96/(86/- to 96/-). English factory cheese, 62/- to 64/(64/-). South African: White and coloured, 58/- to 60/- (not quoted). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese from store last week were 11,429 crates, against 17,585 crates a year ago. The quantity in store last week, including 15,760 crates ex the Port Auckland and Port Alma, was 72,947 crates, against 54,896 crates a year ago. Deliveries of Canadian cheese last week were 4949 boxes, and the quantity in store 100,830 boxes, compared with 84,464 boxes a year ago. Cheese gradings for the week ended March 4 were 21,501 crates of white and 10,349 crates of coloured, a total of 31,850 crates. ,
