Carterton residents should feel proud of the doings of their fire brigade. During last week a team from the brigade competed at the demonstration at Wanganui. So well did they do their work in all the competitions that again they have achieved the honour of being the champion brigade of New Zealand. This achievement is very creditable when it is realised they were, in competition with something like'3oo firemen from various parts of the Dominion. Funeral of Mrs Hadley. The funeral of the late Mrs Elizabeth Prudence Hadley took place yesterday afternoon, when the cortege was a large and representative one. Many beautiful wreaths were sent. The pallbearers were members of the Foresters’ Lodge, Bros. Jas Gorman, A. F. Pink. W. Miller. J. M. Nicholls, J. Shutkowski and F. Shutkowski. The service at .the graveside was conducted by Father Devlin of the Roman Catholic Church. Splendid Rain. Dairy and sheep farmers, as well as gardeners are pleased with the rain which has fallen and grass lands are already showing signs of revival. Residents in the back country who rely principally upon tank water for household purposes have been relieved of further anxiety. A gloomy outlook for winter feed for stock may now result in a quick autumn growth of grass for the dairy farmer and pastoralist. Personal. Messrs W. Moroney and G. S. George (Carterton) have gone to Cape Terawhiti lighthouse, where they will spend a holiday fishing. Mr E. McKenzie, secretary of Totara “Lodge of Druids, left yesterday for New Plymouth, where he will attend the annual conference of the Druids, which will commence this week. Dr and Mrs C. D. Wilkins, who are spending a holiday with Dr Wilkins’s parents in Carterton,!were visitors to the Carterton races on Saturday. They will c-njoy an extended vacation in New Zealand. Rugby Union Meeting. The annual meeting of the Wairarapn Rugby Football Union will be held in Carterton on Saturday, April 1.
