A COMMUNITY EFFORT.
yY VERY good beginning has been made upon a community effort to give financial assistance to two worthy local institutions —the Masterton Beautifying Society and Y.M.C.A. Both organisations have strong claims to effective support. The task Io which the Y.M.C.A. is dedicated of giving guidance and help to youth was never more important than in these days of social change and readjustment of ideas and the work of the association evidently cannot be continued as it should be if it is not adequately supported by the community. The Beautifying Society also lias a very fine record of past achievement in the planting of trees in the streets and in Park and other improvements, and there is no lack of similar work still awaiting attention. Both organisations have excellent claims to continued support, and on the occasion of the present carnival week members of the public are offered various opportunities of giving that support on very pleasant and easy terms. The revue which opened its season at the Opera House on Saturday evening is a capital entertainment, made possible by good team-work on the part of a numerous body of talented artists. There should be no doubt about bumper attendances on the three remaining nights of the season. The other fixtures and entertainments planned for the week, including the gala day at the Park on Saturday afternoon and evening next, all have their popular appeal, and no doubt will be liberally patronised. An immense amount of work is being shouldered by those who are organising and taking part in the events and features of carnival week. There is every indication that they will have their reward in seeing the financial requirements of the Beautifying Society and Y.M.C.A. met satisfactorily for the time bewg. ,
