WAIRARAPA P. & A. SOCIETY MEAT BOARDS’ LAMB COMPETITION. IMPROVEMENTS TO KING THEATRE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society was held in the Society’s rooms yesterday afternoon. There were fourteen members present and the meeting was presided over by Mr J. McLeod (vice-president). Apologies for absence were received from the president, Mr Jas. Fisher and Messrs R. Cundy and Tilson. The secretary referred to the continued illness of Mr Fisher. It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr and Mrs R. Cundy regarding the illness of one of their children. The treasurer, Mr Geo. Brown, submitted his statement which showed the balance at the Bank of New Zealand to be £283 11s lid and at the Post Office Savings Bank £552 Ils lOd, a'total credit balance of £836 3s 9d. Receipts since last meeting amounted to £53 4s sd.

Accounts passed totalled £196 5s Id. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board wrote in regard to the North Island lamb competition, extending its congratulations to the Wairarapa district on again winning the North Island Shield. The board also enclosed a cheque for £5 as prize money payable to the owner of Pen No. 17. The secretary of the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand wrote regarding remits for the 1939 conference and asking Wairarapa to notify the names and addresses of the society’s delegates, also show dates for approval and for gazetting purposes. It was decided that Mr McLeod be the Society’s delegate to the annual meeting of the Royal Show and that the duties for the Wairarapa Show be as previously, in October. Matters in connection with the King's Theatre (Agricultural Hall) were discussed and a committee consisting of Messrs Geo. Brown, G. W. Hart and the secretary are to go into the question of improvements and adjustments. In view of a new lease of the hall the secretary and treasurer were authorised to sign the lease and fix the Society’s seal thereto. One new member was elected. The caretaker’s report showed that extensive painting of buildings had been done beside general cleaning up. It was decided that a meeting of'the Ground Committee be called for Thursday, March 16, at 1.30 p.m.
