ACADEMY AWARDS

MOTION PICTURE PLACINGS. The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced last week the following principal awards for 1938: Best, picture, “You Can't. Take It With You” (Columbia); best directed picture, Frank Capra for “You Can’t Take It With You” (Columbia); best male action performance, Spencer Tracy in “Boys Town” (M.G.M.); best female acting performance, Bette Davis in “Jezebel” (Warners); best original screen play. George Bernard Shaw for "Pygmalion” (Pascal G.E.D.). The amazing feature is that Frank Capra has won this award for the third time. In 1935 he won with “It Happened One Night,” in 1936 with “Mr Deeds Goes To Town,” and. thirdly, in 1938, with "You Can’t Take It With You,” which is to be released in New Zealand very soon.
