The recovery of the Stock Exchange continued for' the sixth successive week, gilt-edged securities ending very strong. The city professes great hopes from the early termination of the Spanish war, believing that Italy’s demands on France will be more temperate than Press pplemics suggest, while Germany is facing grave economic and- financial stresses which render a peaceful interlude imperative and make brighter the chances of an early Anglo-German trade and export competition agreement. Foreign bonds have been buoyant. British and Dominions’ stocks went steadily ahead. There have been slight profit takings in New Zealand stocks after the recent sharp advance.
