RAILWAY GARDENS

BEAUTY SPOTS IN CANADA. WINNIPEG. The traveller across Canada cannot but be struck by the beauty of the flower gardens that line the right of way of the railways and adorn the railway stations. To encourage the inborn desire of the average railway worker to beautify the property under his care, the railway companies offer annual prizes for the best flower gardens on their lines. The Canadian Pacific Railway Company, besides presenting 1,000 dollars in prizes in 1938, distributed to stations and individuals the following quantity of seeds and garden stock: 10,000 packages of flower seed, 124 varieties of other seed. 115,000 bedding plants, 20,000 pansy plants, 78,000 tulip bulbs, a ton of grass seed, and huge quantities of fertiliser.
