INDUSTRIAL PROGRESS
EXTENSION AT GENERAL MOTORS An important industrial development in New Zealand is the move by General Motors, N.Z. Ltd., to extend their present factory premises at Petone. Mr G. C. Seers, managing-direc-tor. has just announced the placing of contracts with New Zealand suppliers for over £43,090 covering extension to the present premises. The new construction will provide 80,000 square feet of additional floor space for factory and storage purposes. In the last 14 years the area of land held by General Motors at Petone has been increased from 5.1 acres to 12J acres and the staff today numbers over 700. In addition to the contract plans, a cricket field and sports ground is also under construction separated from the factory by a two-acre plot of ornamental garden.
