THE AUSTRALIAN POTATO EMBARGO. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. SYDNEY, March 8. A largely-attended citizens’ meeting today soundly criticised the Federal Government for maintaining the embargo on New Zealand potatoes and adopted a resolution demanding the immediate lifting of the embargo. The resolution was put to the meeting by Sir Frederick Stewart, M.P. The chairman, Mr Walker, said the potato embargo had restricted interEmpire trade by reducing trade between sister Dominions, adding that the position was “stunid and ridiculous.” Sir F. Stewart‘said: “This matter is an example of the narrow, parochial view which appears to dominate national policy today. You are paying £35 a ton for potatoes which should be available at half that price. How much longer arc you going to tolerate it?”
