The settlement of the Rajkot dispute which ended Mahatma Gandhi’s fast followed a period of almost continuous consultations between Mr Gandhi ana the ruler of Rajkot State. In addition. Mr Gibson, resident officer for the Western States, had a long talk with Gandhi, and Gandhi’s secretary saw the Viceroy, L.ord Linlithgow. The basis of settlement is that the ruler, Thakore Saheb, will implement his promises regarding the constitution of the advisory council of Rajkot State. Civil disobedience prisoners have been released. Mr Gandhi has accepted an invitation to go to New Delhi, when he has recovered sufficiently, in order to settle matters in personal discussion. Mr Gandhi paid a tribute to the Viceroy as being responsible for the settlement of the dispute, which would he said, help toward a general solution of the problem of the Indian States. Mr Gandhi added that he did not subscribe to the view that the princes were beyond reform. He said that all would be well if the princes read the lessons of the past and responded tc the spirit of the times, but they would have to take heroic measures.
